Financial independence is a crucial part of professional and personal well-being for teachers; however, many educators face perennial financial constraints due to salary incapacity, limited investment knowledge, and inadequate institutional support. This study mapped the pathways to financial independence of public school teachers in Iloilo, Philippines, through a qualitative systematic review and focus group discussions. Following the PRISMA framework for literature selection, with thematic analysis supported by NVivo, key identified themes are: structured financial education, access to investment guidance, and policy-driven salary improvements. Results indicated that while teachers make room for budgeting, saving, and alternative incomes, systemic barriers in the forms of flat-lined wages and financial insecurity deeply impede stability in the long run. The coherence of the financial literacy gaps in literature and as experienced in life further cements this observation, hence making this study call for the integration of financial literacy programs into teacher education, institutional financial counseling, and policy reforms for sustainable financial independence. This therefore calls for future research to be longitudinal, with comparative analysis across different systems, in order to develop best practices for financial empowerment in the teaching profession.

Collado, Ma Flora C.
This study, titled “Balancing Tradition and Profit: Exploring Business Opportunities and Cultural Impacts of Domestic Tourism in Iloilo, Philippines,” investigates the interplay between economic opportunities and cultural preservation in the context of domestic tourism. Employing a qualitative research design, data were collected through focus group discussions with 15 purposively sampled participants, including traditional craftsmen, farmers, business owners, and other tourism stakeholders. The study draws on the Sustainable Tourism Development Framework and Cultural Preservation Theory to guide the analysis of how tourism reshapes traditional livelihoods and cultural practices. Data were analyzed thematically using NVivo to identify recurring patterns and relationships. The primary aim of the study was to explore how the growth of domestic tourism has influenced traditional practices and contributed to economic transformations in Iloilo. Significant findings reveal that while domestic tourism has created new business opportunities, such as hospitality services, food and beverage enterprises, and souvenir production, it has also led to the decline of traditional practices like weaving, indigenous farming, and heritage cooking. The tension between the economic benefits of tourism and the erosion of cultural identity is reflected by those transitions. Hence, there is an urgent need to balance economic development with cultural preservation. This study recommends to promote sustainable tourism practices. Also, incentives to preserve traditional crafts and farming must be offered. Tourism policies should integrate cultural preservation. These strategies will ensure that the economic growth and gains are not compromising the cultural heritage in the province. The overall results and findings of this research provide recommendations for policymakers, tourism stakeholders, and local communities. These recommendations serve as groundwork for future studies on the sustainability of economic and cultural transitions from domestic tourism.

<summary type="text">Longitudinal dynamics of MSME growth in Iloilo, Philippines: Assessing the economic and social ripple effects of domestic tourism
Blanza, Ma. Gerlia Aujero
This longitudinal study delves into the impact of domestic tourism on Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Iloilo, Philippines, highlighting the economic advantages and the concurrent challenges. Interviews with MSME representatives revealed a significant boost in revenue during peak tourist seasons, leading to business growth and enhanced local employment. This economic benefit is further underscored by improvements in community infrastructure, funded largely by tourism-generated revenue. However, the study also uncovers several challenges. Chief among these is the inconsistency of seasonal income, compelling MSMEs to continually adapt to changing tourist preferences. This dynamic presents a complex balancing act for businesses striving to capitalize on tourism benefits while managing the unpredictability of the market. Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) reinforce the positive economic impact on MSMEs, but also bring to light critical concerns about environmental degradation and potential cultural erosion. These discussions suggest a delicate interplay between economic growth and the preservation of environmental and cultural integrity. Collaborative efforts among MSMEs are highlighted as a vital strategy to maximize tourism opportunities. The study recommends policy support, capacity building, and strengthened inter-business collaboration to address the identified challenges and enhance the benefits of tourism. Such collaboration is deemed essential for promoting sustainable tourism practices. Observations during the study indicate that businesses in tourist-heavy areas generally thrive, benefiting from their strategic locations and physical attributes. Nonetheless, there are evident signs of environmental stress in these areas, underscoring the need for urgent implementation of sustainable tourism practices. The study concludes that while domestic tourism is a catalyst for economic growth in Iloilo, it also presents sustainability challenges. These dual aspects of tourism's impact necessitate further research into sustainable tourism practices that can strike a balance between economic development and environmental and cultural preservation. The findings advocate for a nuanced approach to tourism development, ensuring it contributes sustainably to the economic and social development of the community, while safeguarding its environmental and cultural heritage.

This research employs a qualitative approach, utilizing the snowball sampling technique to conduct in-depth interviews with women from various roles within the Filipino hospitality sector. The study employs narrative analysis to elucidate discriminatory practices in hiring, remuneration, and professional advancement opportunities. Findings reveal a pattern of gender disparities, with biased recruitment practices directing women into lower-paid service roles while men ascend to leadership positions. A significant pay gap persists, attributed to occupational segregation and undervaluation of female-dominated professions. The study identifies unconscious biases, lack of mentorship, and a corporate culture favoring stereotypically "male" leadership attributes as barriers to career progression. Recommendations include advocating for anti-discrimination legislation, transparent hiring protocols, and addressing pay differentials through audits and awareness initiatives. Employers are urged to implement unbiased recruitment and mentorship programs, while educational institutions and civil society organizations play roles in empowering women and advocating for policy reform. The study underscores the need for collective commitment to gender equality to transform the Filipino hospitality industry into a model of inclusivity and collaboration.
