Climate change is a major threat to vulnerable communities around the world. This study aimed to determine climate change awareness, and disaster preparedness among communities of Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, Philippines. A quantitative research design was utilized, with 377 residents from three selected study areas of lowland, coastal, and upland barangays. Data were collected using a researcher-made questionnaire. The results showed that the level of climate change awareness and preparedness among communities of Himamaylan City was low. However, there was a significant relationship between the level of awareness and preparedness. The study recommends that the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) develop and implement strategic actions and plans to amplify the people’s climate change awareness and preparedness. The CDRRMO may also partner with other government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and civil society organizations to develop and implement climate change adaptation programs and projects. The findings of this study can be used to develop and implement sustainable programs and projects to foster climate change awareness, preparedness, and adaptation practices in the community.

<description>When a disaster strikes: Are libraries in the Philippines ready?

Disasters, whether triggered by natural or man-made hazards, frequently threaten libraries in the Philippines. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, this research involved a detailed seven-part survey that was completed by 90 head librarians or officers-in-charge across the country. The findings indicate that many libraries have experienced disasters in the past decade. Despite this, most lack adequate preparedness, with 69 operating without a disaster management plan. This lack of preparedness is attributed to constraints such as limited finances and human resources, among others, along with a perception of low disaster risk. While most libraries have implemented basic emergency protocols, such as alarm systems and emergency kits, and some have insurance and updated emergency telephone trees, these measures fall short of the comprehensive requirements for effective disaster management. The study underscores the vital importance of disaster management plans, adequate equipment, sturdy library structures and strong library networks in disaster preparedness and management. It also calls for urgent action in policy enforcement, capacity building and further research to bolster the resilience of libraries against potential disasters.

Understanding Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices (KAP) is essential for any transition towards sustainability (Salas-Zapata et al., 2018). Thus, the researcher conducted a study to assess learners' level of knowledge, practices, and attitude on science related sustainable development goals. The researcher used the descriptive-correlational research design to describe the learners' level of knowledge, practices, and level of attitude on selected SDGs and to determine its significant relationship between and among these variables. The study was conducted in the school year 2020-2021 in the five public secondary schools offering STEM - Academic Track in the 3rd Congressional District of Iloilo. Seventy-eight STEM Grade 12 learners were the participants of the study. They were identified through stratified random sampling technique. The researcher made instruments were used in the study. The instruments underwent content validation by three experts in science education. The study was conducted with the approval of Schools Division Superintendent and respective school heads, the data were gathered using google form to gather responses from the learners. The results revealed that the entire group learners' level of knowledge was moderately knowledgeable; however, they have highly desirable practices and highly desirable attitudes on selected SDGs. Significant difference exists between knowledge and attitude on selected SDGs and between practices and attitude on SDGs. The results of the study supported by the various literatures recommend the following: improvement of the integration of selected SDGs in the science curriculum and other learning areas; creation of competencies or learning objectives which include concepts on selected SDGs or local and global issues and providing opportunities for authentic experiences through insightful curriculum materials; systematic implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and collaboration of the community, teachers and learners to the co-curricular programs and activities aligned to the selected SDGs. With the disaster that is continuously happening, sustainability literacy among learners needs to be developed to protect the environment, to promote wellness of people, and to cope with the different disasters. In addition, no one should be left behind in attaining the global goals.
