<description>Effect of malunggay (Moringa oleifera) seed oil extract on blood serum lipid profiles of hypercholesterolemic rabbits
Denusta, Pastor Jones; Sabinay, Stephen
This study was conducted to determine the effect of malunggay seed oil extract on blood serum total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high-density (HDL) and low-density (LDL) lipoproteins of hypercholesterolemic rabbits. Approximately 300 grams of malunggay seeds were sundried and powdered for the preparation of the extract. The powdered sample was mixed with 95% ethanol (b.p. 76-78 oc) in a soxhlet apparatus and the oil was obtained by recovery of the solvent using simple distillation. For the experiment, ten male rabbits (0.45 - 1.29 kg) of mixed breed were fed with a non-purified hypercholesterolemic diet (HCD) containing 94% chicken pellets, 5% coconut oil, and 1% beef tallow (wt/wt) for four weeks at 4% of their body weight. The rabbits were then randomly divided into two groups. The first group were maintained on additional four weeks, while the second group were fed with 30-mg/kg/d malunggay seed oil extract for four weeks. Blood samples were then taken and analyzed for TC, TG, HDL and LDL before and after the treatment. The mean difference of each lipid profile was taken for the two groups and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test using SPSS Statistical Program. Results showed that there were significant differences in the mean difference of serum total cholesterol level in the second (treated) group at P =0.05. However, triglyceride, high-density and low-density lipoprotein levels did not differ in the same group. On the other hand, the mean difference of the lipid profiles in the first group (control) did not differ significantly. This study showed that malunggay seed oil extract can lower total cholesterol levels in animals fed with hypercholesterolemic diets. Further study is advised to determine the minimum effective dosage o the extract to rabbits and other animals including humans.

<description>WVSU college admission trend study for SY 2002-2008
Tanco-Nepomuceno, Cherry
WVSU is committed to be recognized as the leading institution in providing higher education that meets high academic standards. It aims to attract and admit top performing students in all its academic programs. To determine if high school graduates admitted at  indeed well-prepared for college work, this study was conducted to evaluate the performance of enrolled freshmen in the WVSU-College Admission Test (CAT) during the AY 2002-2006. Specifically, the study aimed to describe and compare WVSU-CAT performance of students enrolled in the different academic programs offered by the different colleges at the WVSU-Main Campus for four academic years by subject areas. All freshman students enrolled in the WVSU-Main Campus, first semester SY 2002-2006, were included in the study.&#13;
BS Nursing consistently topped the group of 17 academic programs offered in the Main campus in terms of WVSU-CAT performance. Its mean score was far above the next in rank with almost all its entrants belonging to the top 25percentilers. BS Information Technology also consistently attracted very good performing freshmen although AB English showed surprisingly high performance in the last year of study. BS Biological Sciences continued to sustain its good performance although it significantly reduced its freshman enrolment. AB Political Science was also able to sustain its relatively good performance with slowly increasing freshman population. Bachelor in Secondary Education has fluctuating freshman population while Bachelor in Elementary Education steadily increased without much improvement in rank in the WVSU-CAT performance. Bachelor in Physical Education and Bachelor in Music Education programs had difficulty attracting high WVSU-CAT performing freshmen although Bachelor in Music Education has slowly improving its profile. Programs under the College of Mass Communications enrolled low to average performing freshmen.

<description>Learning style: Its relationship to students' performance in contemporary mathematics
Cerbo, Wilhelm P
This study aimed to determine the relationships of the students ' learning style to their performance in Contemporary Mathematics among the education freshmen at West Visayas State University. This descriptive-correlational research was conducted among the 165 randomly selected education freshmen enrolled in Mathematics 103 - Contemporary Mathematics -for the second semesters of AY 2007-2008 using the cluster sampling method. The data needed for this research were obtained through a researcher-made Mathematical Learning Style Inventory, to determine the students' dominant learning style and Mathematics Performance Test, to determine the students' in Contemporary Mathematics. Frequencies, means, and standard deviations were employed in the descriptive analysis, while t-test, One-Way ANOVA, Chi-square test, Pearson’s r, and eta correlation were used in the inferential analysis. Significance level was set at 0.05 level of significance. Generally, the students ' dominant learning style was "cognitive " and they had "high " performance in Contemporary Mathematics. The students did not differ significantly in their learning style when classified according to family structure and family size. They did not differ significantly in their performance in Contemporary Mathematics when classified according to family structure, family size, and learning style. On the other hand, the students' learning style was not significantly related to their performance in Contemporary Mathematics. Finally, family structure, family size, and learning style were found not to significantly predict the students 'performance in Contemporary Mathematics.
