Redesigning of Sibol curriculum as social innovation in an extension program
Share
Zusammenfassung
This study was aimed in redesigning GK Sibol curriculum as a social innovation in the COE Extension program and aligning it with the ECCD Council mandated programs that covers health, nutrition, early education, and social services for children ages 3-4 years. This educational design research was anchored on the ADDIE model for its development and the "serve and return concept" was instilled in the heart of its play functions and interactions as learning tasks and activities were constructed. Anchoring on the constructivist perspective, both theoretical model and concept were embedded in the enhanced delivery of the program. The Preschool Curriculum Review Rubric Planning Tool from the Virginia Department of Education (2007) was modified and was validated to suit the need of the study. This evaluation tool is composed of 25 statements describing the three identified parameters of the curriculum, namely: (A) Content, Scope, and Sequence, (B) Teaching and Learning Activities, and (C) Assessment Tasks. Experts in the area of early childhood and curriculum development were chosen to validate the redesigned GK Sibol Curriculum. The evaluation results showed an overall mean of (SD=0.16, M=3.81) described as Highly Acceptable. When broken down according to the identified parameters, (A) Content, Scope and Sequence has the score of (SD= 0.18, M=3.78) Highly Acceptable; (B) Teaching and Learning Activities (SD=0.19, M=3.82) Highly Acceptable and (C) Assessment Tasks (SD=0.36, M=3.84) Highly Acceptable. With the Highly Acceptable results, the redesigned curriculum is recommended for utilization in the COE Extension program and further research on its impact be conducted.
