Contextualized admission test for Grade 1 learners

Abstract
This developmental research focused on the contextualized admission test for Grade 1 learners. The researcher aimed to develop an instrument that will authentically assess the incoming Grade 1 learners considering the standards of Ateneo de Iloilo- Santa Maria Catholic School (AdI-SMCS) and the variability or diversity of applicants coming from varying kinder schools in the region and to create an instrument that is aligned with Department of Education's and the AdI's curricula. Due to the restrictions caused by the pandemic, the researcher conducted the study utilizing only four of the six stages of test construction of Robert Gregory (2015). A 120- item contextualized admission test was constructed based on the said stages. The researcher- made tools were validated by 11 experts and were pilot-tested on 33 learners of AdI-SMCS. Validity and reliability were examined after the pilot testing. The validators rated the content with a mean of 3.94 and face value with a mean of 3.98. The total weighted average was 3.96, which means that the tools are "very acceptable". For the reliability estimation, the researcher made use of the Kuder-Richardson Formula 20. As a whole, the instrument is "very good" with a 0.84 reliability index. The instrument was proposed to be used as the official admission test of AdI-SMCS in the succeeding years for the incoming Grade 1 learners.
