dc.description.abstract | This qualitative study utilized the arts-based research to gather information about the unpublished religious dance and capture its religious form. The informants of the study were old performers of the Kari in the community, specifically in Barangay Importante, Barangay Sta. Justa, Barangay Martinez and Barangay San Isidro. A validated interviewed guide was used to gather data which were transcribed, summarized and interpreted. Also, video recording and photos were used to capture the authenticity of the dance performed by the participants. The ideas of constructionism symbolic interactionism, and sociological aesthetic theory backed-up the thematic analysis of the data. Findings revealed that Kari is an integral part of the celebration of devotion and tradition of Tibiaonons to the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Kari is performed as a sing and dance ritual with basic dance steps of sway balance, waltz, arms in lateral and brush step done in a 3/4 time signature. The movements are performed by the dancer wearing pink or white bestida with blue or red banda and a laurel in the head and a footwear of shoes or slipper. The common musical instruments that they used were guitar, violin and banjo. While dancing and singing castanets were used held in both hands. From these identified characteristics, a dance literature of Karsi was drafted. | en |
