DOREMI: effects on learners' academic performance in Araling Panlipunan

Abstract
This quantitative and qualitative study was an investigation of the effect of DOREMI (Doing Reading with Music Intervention) on Learners' Academic Performance in Araling Panlipunan. DOREMI was used determine if teaching learners to read music increased the reading ability and comprehension as well their academic performance. The pretest and posttest were conducted to 88 Grade 10 Learners of Carlos Lopez National High School, Bagacay, San Dionisio, Iloilo. Testing was conducted under two groups: a) DOREMI, who are respondents for the intervention and b) Non- DOREMI who did not partake in the intervention. Using DOREMI as intervention during AP 10 Classes, learners adapt the easiest way to study, improves reading comprehension and get high scores. Results of an analysis of variance showed performance before using DOREMI was comparable. After the exposure the intervention becomes helpful in increasing the academic performance and reading comprehension of the learners, in the end, DOREMI becomes an effective intervention to get high scores, to develop self-confidence, to improve reading comprehension and it was indeed a channel to support other subjects by delivering lesson effectively. Results are important for understanding influences on study habits, with the goal of helping educators and school psychologists design support systems tailored to the needs of learners.
