This study aimed to produce a learning material suitable for grade 3 learners in the K to 12 curriculum, which would introduce local literature as well as essential knowledge about language, tradition, culture, beliefs, ideals, and values worth developing among young people. This was done initially by doing a textual analysis of the Sugidanon (Epics) of Panay—Tikum Kadlum and Amburukay— focusing on the narratives' structure, plot, characters, setting, and symbols to discover how the tradition, culture, beliefs, ideals, and values of the ancient people of Panay, captured and embodied in the narratives, could be translated or reflected in an Illustrated storybook. The data gathered using the formalistic approach in literary criticism to determine the distinctive characteristics—traits, attitudes, behaviors—of the importance characters in the Panay epics, the didactic approach to identify the values shown through these characters' experiences, and the mythological approach to discover the archetypes and symbols representing the beliefs and ideals of the ancient Filipino ancestors that prevail and manifest in the epics were used to determine the focal element or main character of the story, the value/s to be highlighted, and the most important events from the characters' adventures and experiences that could be used in the illustrated storybooks. The study adopted the ADDIE framework for developing instructional materials, which requires analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. A teaching guide was prepared based on the evaluators' comments and suggestions. Using evaluation tools that also required comments and suggestions on the materials, the storybooks were rated Very Acceptable by the expert validators. The learners, however, must be closely guided by the learning facilitators with the help of the teacher's guides so that the benefits of using the storybooks can be maximized.en
