Abstract
The study aimed to develop and use the OBE aligned instructor's guide in basic swimming focused on elementary backstroke and breaststroke for college students. An instructional material development and consequently a quasi-experimental design was employed to determine the students' skill performance in basic swimming, specifically in two basic strokes; the elementary backstroke and breaststroke with the use of OBE aligned instructor's guide. The four stages were followed in the development of the guide which included Preparation, Validation, Refinement and Final Revision. After the final revision, the OBE aligned instructor's guide was used by the twenty-five (25) first year college students in the first semester of School Year 2015-2016. The OBE aligned instructor's guide was administered for eight (8) weeks. In the development stage , the validation result showed that the developed OBE aligned instructor's guide was "very appropriate" in terms of its physical features, intended learning outcomes, teaching/learning activities, instruction, and assessment tasks. While in the stage of using the OBE aligned instructor's guide, the result showed a significant improvement in the students' skill performance, thus indicating a significant improvement in teaching basic swimming. These were reflected by their posttest result. This, by all indications, showed that the use of the developed OBE aligned instructor's guide is a great potential teaching tool at the same time a strategy that can promote effective learning.
